Help and Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently asked questions from billing managers and practice administrators using BillingBench tools and benchmarks. For questions not covered here, contact support@billingbench.com.

Are the benchmarks free? Yes. All benchmarks, denial code references, and public tools (Denial Risk Tool, Appeal Letter Builder, Denial Decoder, ERA Parser, Prompt Pay Interest Calculator, Timely Filing Calculator, Cash Leakage Calculator) are free for all visitors. No account is required. Workspace features — denial queue management, saved appeal letters with outcome tracking, team collaboration, and ERA dashboard saves — require a paid plan.

Is my data private? Public tools are stateless — no data is stored or transmitted. The Appeal Letter Builder and ERA Parser process data exclusively in your browser's local memory. No patient data, clinical notes, claim details, or PHI of any kind is transmitted to BillingBench servers when using these tools. Workspace accounts store denial queue data and saved letters in Supabase with encryption at rest. A Business Associate Agreement is executed at workspace signup.

How current are the benchmarks? Benchmarks are updated when primary sources publish new data. MGMA Physician Practice Benchmark Reports are published annually (typically Q3). HFMA MAP Key metrics are updated annually. CMS data is updated on CMS publication schedules. Each benchmark entry shows the source publication year.

Can I use the appeal letters as-is? The Appeal Letter Builder generates letters with specific regulatory citations based on your inputs. They are starting points — you should review the citations against the governing plan document and clinical record before submitting. BillingBench is not a law firm and the tools are not legal advice.
